A Word From Our New Associate Pastor
Christian education is one of the most important ministries in the
life of the local church. It is bible study, Sunday school and open
dialogue that allow us to explore our faith and discuss God’s word
together. For many of us, serious theological inquiry began in
facilitated discussions in which we were able to both receive and share.
I was a Sunday School girl! As far back as I can remember either I,
or my parents, were involved in church school. Both teaching and
attending classes is what expanded our faith. It was there that I
learned about the promises of God, was encouraged to live a life of
integrity and Christian service, and I was challenged to seek to know
the will of God for my life
These are a few, among many, of the things that I hope each of you
will continue to gain from Christian education here at Metropolitan as
well. I am excited about my new role as the Associate Pastor responsible
for Christian education, and I look forward to working together with you
to continue the legacy of living the Word… and bringing the bible to
life in the lives of others.
For over 20 years I have taught Sunday School and bible study, in
addition to leading three different youth groups over the past 15 years.
It is amazing to walk alongside others as they grow – that’s what the
bible calls discipleship. Discipleship can begin as early as age two and
never ends. It’s happening when you hear a toddler singing a song that
he or she learned in the church nursery and, if it is nurtured, it
continues through out his or her life. I saw it in the classes that I
started teaching at age 12. I have seen it in the senior classes that I
have taught for retirees. I’ve seen it in each and every youth group
that I’ve been blessed to lead, and I have seen it in parents,
newlyweds, singles and divorcees. When it comes to sharing God’s word
there a place for everyone and Metropolitan is positioned to enhance the
faith of Detroiters and metro Detroiters as well. Let’s share together
through a Christian Education Department that opens the doors for all to
take part. Together, with the Lord’s help, this year we’ll have an
exciting start!
