The Parish Neighborhood Group Concept:
• Geographically determined by Zip Codes and
cities
• Comprised of a cross-section of persons of
various ages, cultural backgrounds, vocations and interests
• Providing opportunity for persons with
leadership gifts to serve as Shepherd/Leader. Leaders shall be
equipped for such ministry by the clergy staff.
• Focusing on fellowship (koinonia), encouraging
the development of meaningful relationships for personal support and
ministry.
• Preserving a flexible nature, but addressing
itself to the goal of being the "Church in miniature",
providing opportunities for fellowship, Bible Study, prayer, worship
and the sharing of life.
• Ministering to "fringe" members of
Metropolitan Church, as well as to new or prospective members.
• Serving as a "beachhead" for the
mission and ministry of Metropolitan Church and focusing on
opportunities for outreach as well as discipleship
• Meeting at the discretion of the individual PNG’s
with a six-week study emphasis during Lent.
Opportunities for Ministry
• Meals/visitation at times of need (grief,
hospitalization, etc.)
• Transportation for shut-ins to doctors
• Transportation to church for those unable to
come by themselves
• Visitation to shut-ins in PNG area
• Caring Ministry--ministering to the needs of the
members, rejoicing with those who rejoice, weeping with those who
weep.
• Visitation to first-time visitors (Persons In
Evangelism)
• Contacts with those who have recently become
inactive at worship
Lenten Study
The Lenten Study is held on the six Sundays of Lent,
in homes across the metropolitan area. A few of the smaller groups
combine with other groups for this study. Time of the day varies and
is set by each group. The study is based on a book chosen by staff and
lay leaders.
