“When the Feast of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Without warning there was a sound like a strong wind, gale force - no one could tell where it came from. It filled the whole building. Then, like a wildfire, the Holy Spirit spread through their ranks, and they started speaking in a number of different languages as the Spirit prompted them.”(Acts 2:1-4, The Message)
Have you ever wondered what it must have been like to be in that upper room with those who were waiting for something but not sure what that something was? God’s Spirit came in the form of fire and tongues igniting those 120 believers to be transformed and transform their world! Their “hearts were strangely warmed” and the Church became a change agent in the Roman culture. The Holy Spirit was made available to all who believe and not just a select few.
After two millennia, the power of the Holy Spirit continues to breathe life and we celebrate the joy of God’s presence, peace, fulfillment, abundance, and purpose for our lives. Holiness of heart and holiness of life are benchmarks of the Spirit-led life, especially Methodists. As we embark on new seasons in the Church, let Pentecost become the driving force that ignites your life and be “fired up” for transforming your life and your world!
June 20 to August 2, ages 6-11, (Coming This Month)
Welcome Ninoska Guillen and Hannah Maxam, our summer interns working with our Metro day camp! In cooperation with Motown Mission these two college students will be helping me (Rev Miles) in implementing this new outreach to our children. God bless you Ninoska and Hannah as you come.
Thank you to all who have already donated financially and offering equipment for our upcoming day camp. (Still in need of basketballs, volleyballs, kick balls or playground balls, snacks and water bottles).
We will do plenty of reading, games, activities, swimming, and much, much more to bless our children. Please be in prayer for this outreach in both sharing fun and sharing Jesus!
We are still in need of volunteers for reading, crafts, lunches, and supervision. Please contact Rev. Miles ASAP if you are able to help. You can email or call and leave a message on the answering machine, ext 315. Look for more info coming in Sunday announcements, bulletin and Metro Messenger.
July 10, 17, 24, 31 and Aug 7
As part of our day camp ministry, we will also be doing a sports camp theme with our kids and the kids from Metro neighborhood on Sunday mornings. Your help will be needed. We need Sunday school classes to provide lunch and adult supervision. Please consider making part of your summer to make new friends and actively engage with Sizzlin' Summer Games. This will take place the last half of worship service and kids will enjoy games with a gospel message, lunch, and other activities. There will be no Sunday school or Young Disciples for kids during this time. Contact Rev. Miles if you are willing to assist.
We will be doing a planning session this summer for our J2B event on the first Friday evening in December (Dec 2). The last three have been excellent and we want to continue to build on that, especially with contacts in our day camp. If you have new ideas or suggestions, please email Rev Miles. We will plan a meeting in August.
Wesley Prayer Watch each Friday at noon to 1 O’clock. Please take time to pray for your church, family, friends, and world. God wants us to seek His direction and intervention in our world.
National Conference on Spirit-filled Living, July 27-31, Dayton, OH
This conference is for everyone looking for a fresh encounter with God and God's Spirit. This is a “family friendly” ministry and there is something for every age. For more info go to www.Aldersgate2011.org.
Congratulations to all our graduates for 2011. May God’s Spirit refill you and direct your paths as you embark upon new endeavors of work, education, and study!
Congratulations to the Rice and Metromakers Classes who are now officially the Rice Class. I pray your cooperative union will testify to God’s oneness in our lives.
Sunday school is still in session over summer and praying that Pentecost will be part of your “educational” experience.
In service to Jesus,
Rev. Cathee Miles
