Metropolitan offers many opportunities
for adults to become involved in Christian Education. The eleven Adult
Sunday School Classes offer a variety of class settings for a diversity
of backgrounds and interests. Some of the classes are somewhat
indicative of an age level, but are open to anyone who is interested.
Topics in the classes are varied, with many of them emphasizing Bible
study. Many of the classes also have times for fellowship in a social
setting and have developed into a strong supportive and caring group for
members. Visitors are always welcome in any class.
Addis-Thompson Class
This class for adults with special needs meets on the
lower level to the right of the stairs. Most of the members of this
class come from the Adult Foster Care Homes in the immediate
neighborhood of the church.
Aldersgate Class
Couples and singles, mainly in the 50’s and
60’s but including other ages, share in lively discussion and Bible
Study each Sunday morning in room 207. Christian fellowship in monthly
social events is an important part of the strong relationships and
caring that develop within the group. Always open to bringing new
persons into the circle of the class, the Aldersgate Class welcomes
visitors and those searching for a class.
Genesis Class
The Genesis Class consists of couples and
singles from 35 to 55 but open to any age person. A variety of
curriculum materials are used with an emphasis on missions. Social
events for fellowship are included quarterly. Sunday morning classes are
held in the Sarah Fife room on the third floor, the south staircase.
Koinonia Class
The Koinonia Class concentrates on books of the
Bible and evangelism and meets each Sunday in the old Christian
Education Office on the first floor, north end of the building. The
class holds lively discussions on the book of the Bible being studied.
Ages of the members range from 30-80.
Metromakers Class
The Metromakers class has lessons each Sunday led by
many teachers with emphasis on the books of the Bible. Social events and
a caring and supporting fellowship are a part of this class. The class
ranges in age from 60 to 85 but welcomes any one who is interested. They
meet in Asbury Hall, first floor, north end.
New Creation
Young adults, ages 25-40, use Biblical principles as
topics for discussion to assist each other in understanding and growth
in Christian faith. In addition to the Sunday morning class, the group
meets regularly for fun, fellowship and growth in their relationship
with Jesus Christ. Periodically fellowship and meeting times are
scheduled.
Rice Bible Class
The most senior class in Metropolitan, the Rice Bible
Class meets each Sunday in Kresge Auditorium for Bible study, using the
International Bible Lesson curriculum. Interested in missions,
charitable donations are given by the group to many Christian
organizations.
Seekers Class
The Seekers Class is an intergenerational class
consisting mainly of mature adults who are involved in an intensive
study of the Bible. Each book is studied in detail, verse by verse,
chapter by chapter. The class meets infrequently for social activities.
Class sessions are held in room 209.
