Metropolitan offers many opportunities for adults to become involved in Christian Education. The eleven Adult Sunday School Classes offer a variety of class settings for a diversity of backgrounds and interests. Some of the classes are somewhat indicative of an age level, but are open to anyone who is interested. Topics in the classes are varied, with many of them emphasizing Bible study. Many of the classes also have times for fellowship in a social setting and have developed into a strong supportive and caring group for members. Visitors are always welcome in any class.

    Addis-Thompson Class

This class for adults with special needs meets on the lower level to the right of the stairs. Most of the members of this class come from the Adult Foster Care Homes in the immediate neighborhood of the church.

    Aldersgate Class

Couples and singles, mainly in the 50’s and 60’s but including other ages, share in lively discussion and Bible Study each Sunday morning in room 207. Christian fellowship in monthly social events is an important part of the strong relationships and caring that develop within the group. Always open to bringing new persons into the circle of the class, the Aldersgate Class welcomes visitors and those searching for a class.

    Genesis Class

The Genesis Class consists of couples and singles from 35 to 55 but open to any age person. A variety of curriculum materials are used with an emphasis on missions. Social events for fellowship are included quarterly. Sunday morning classes are held in the Sarah Fife room on the third floor, the south staircase.

    Koinonia Class

The Koinonia Class concentrates on books of the Bible and evangelism and meets each Sunday in the old Christian Education Office on the first floor, north end of the building. The class holds lively discussions on the book of the Bible being studied. Ages of the members range from 30-80.

    Metromakers Class

The Metromakers class has lessons each Sunday led by many teachers with emphasis on the books of the Bible. Social events and a caring and supporting fellowship are a part of this class. The class ranges in age from 60 to 85 but welcomes any one who is interested. They meet in Asbury Hall, first floor, north end.

    New Creation

Young adults, ages 25-40, use Biblical principles as topics for discussion to assist each other in understanding and growth in Christian faith. In addition to the Sunday morning class, the group meets regularly for fun, fellowship and growth in their relationship with Jesus Christ. Periodically fellowship and meeting times are scheduled.

    Rice Bible Class

The most senior class in Metropolitan, the Rice Bible Class meets each Sunday in Kresge Auditorium for Bible study, using the International Bible Lesson curriculum. Interested in missions, charitable donations are given by the group to many Christian organizations.

    Seekers Class

The Seekers Class is an intergenerational class consisting mainly of mature adults who are involved in an intensive study of the Bible. Each book is studied in detail, verse by verse, chapter by chapter. The class meets infrequently for social activities. Class sessions are held in room 209.
