Mission and Community Outreach

Mission & Community Outreach Ministry
supports local, national, and global missions.

Our work fosters collaboration among people and ministries
in the church, community, and the world.

Ministries

Every Tuesday at 5:00 p.m., people within the metro-Detroit community gather to listen to  free jazz music and to fellowship with others. The 5 O'clock Rush Series is more than just a concert. It's a place for individuals to connect to a loving community. It's also an opportunity for Metropolitan Church to connect with and serve people within our community.

Good Samaritan Ministry
Each month, on the 2nd-5th Wednesday, Metropolitan opens its community clothes closet and food pantry to those in need in our community, specifically those in need of emergency assistance. We have men's, women's, and children's clothing in our clothes closet. If you or someone you know needs clothing or food assistance, Good Samaritan is available on the 2nd through 5th Wednesday of each month. We began serving clients at 1:00 p.m. and stop serving clients at 2:30 p.m. We are finished by 3:00 p.m. It is best to arrive by 12:30 p.m.

Each summer, Metropolitan hosts youth and adults participating in the Motown Mission Experience. "Motown Mission Experience trips engage youth groups" (students who have just completed grades 6 through 12) "in economic disaster relief/ recovery work in the City of Detroit, MI. Participants serve God by serving others, explore the Biblical witness regarding the poor, meet the people and experience the culture of the Motor City, and explore their own capacity for living missionally in the name of Jesus Christ." This summer Metropolitan provided housing for over 300 volunteers, coming from all over the country.

Rotating Homeless Shelter
Each year, Metropolitan hosts the Inter-Faith Hospitality Rotating Shelter in partnership with Cass Community Social Services. This ministry allows us to provide meals and shelter one week per year to homeless individuals and families in Detroit.

Storehouse of Hope Pantry
The Storehouse of Hope is a community based organization addressing the basic needs of North End Detroit residents. Through a collaborative effort by community development organizations and churches in the North End community, we provide services to those in need in our community.
