CONSISTENT SUMMER NURSERY CARE
Special thanks to Sarah Bosman and her friend Megan who cleaned and
freshened up the church nursery. A nursery area is on the second floor
and Sarah has offered to provide nursery care for young children the
entire summer. Shacha Nalls (youth director) will assist Sarah as well.
Sarah, a student at Ferris State University and long time Metro UMC
member, is a Safe Sanctuaries participant and passed a special clearance
for church workers who minister to children. Nursery Care will be
provided from 10 a.m. -12:15 p.m. (when worship ends) each Sunday.
SUMMER CAMP
Middle Schoolers!!! This one's for you. Superzeroes is the theme of
this year’s Middle School camp at Lake Louise. The summer camp runs from
August 6-12. Registration forms are available in the front office. This
year’s theme is based on Matthew 20:16, “So the last will be first and
the first will be last.” Rev. Amy Mayo-Moyle and Rev. Steve Euper will
be there to introduce you to the “Adventures of Superzeroes.” We’d love
to see all of Metropolitan’s Middle Schoolers attend. For more
information contact Rev. Green Timmons. There are camping opportunities
for older youth too.
VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL
Hey kids, be our guests at FIESTA! Our Fiesta program will provide
fun, memorable Bible-learning activities for kids of all ages. Each week
you will sing catchy songs, play team-work building games, nibble Maraca
Munchies, take on a Daily Challenge to let Jesus' love grow into your
homes, experience electrifying Bible adventures, and create Bible Point
crafts you can take home and enjoy all summer long.
Fiesta is our theme for Vacation Bible School 2006 – What a good time!
Teens and adults can take part too! There is something for everyone to
do and we can use help making this weekly July event a complete success.
For more information watch the bulletin or contact Karen Hoover in the
church office or Rev. Faith Green Timmons.
FREE MOVIE NIGHT
Movie Night continues with more great films on the BIG SCREEN in
Kresge Auditorium. Each film is carefully and prayerfully selected to
both enhance and entertain you with a fun, family friendly message. Come
on out, its free and we have air conditioning! Watch the bulletin for
dates and times.
Our June movie is “MIRACLE IN THE WOODS”, a warm, touching film with
a twist. Miracle in the Woods stars Emmy-winners Patricia Heaton
(Everybody Loves Raymond), Meredith Baxter (Family Ties) and Detroit
native Della Reese. It’s about two sisters at odds over what to do with
an inherited pecan grove. They discover a mysterious woman living on the
property who claims it as her own and learn a lot about themselves.
Watch your bulletin for the June day and time.
Our July movie is “SOMETHING TO SING ABOUT.” It is a story about
love, friendship and the struggle to change. Starring Irma P. Hall
(Patch Adams), Darius McCrary (Family Matters), Tamera Mowry (Sister,
Sister) and Grammy Award winning gospel artist Kirk Franklin. It’s the
story of a musically gifted ex-con who has a hard time starting his life
over until a saintly grandmother lends a hand. A must see! Billy Graham
produced this film and has done a great job.
YOUTH CONFIRMATION
Youth confirmation – this fall Rev. Faith will teach youth
confirmation for any child 12 or over who has not been confirmed.
Confirmation is an important step in our spiritual development and
progression from childhood to adulthood. During confirmation you learn
what it means to be a Christian, a United Methodist, and a responsible
person. If we have a small group of pre-teens that will be great for the
mentor-style lesson plan that we have in store. Please contact the
church office to express your interest.
ADULTS GETTING IN SHAPE FOR SUMMER
Just in time for summer, a weight loss class is starting at Metro.
Joann Wolff has delightfully taken on the task of coordinating the First
Place workshop. First Place is a biblically based weight loss program
that focuses on life style change, accountability, and encouraging
proper eating habits. A dietician/nutritionist visit and other great
resources will be a part of the class. For more information contact
Joann Wolff at 313-874-3790.
C.E. PLANNING MEETING
If you are interested in or currently involved in Christian Education
come and help us dream, vision and plan. We want to start looking at
next year’s Children’s Sabbath, Youth Program Offerings, Adult Classes
and more. If you have a child this is a great place for you to serve. We
will meet June 3rd from 9-12 for a retreat, that will include lunch and
we will plan… plan… plan. Reserve your place by contacting Rev. Green
Timmons so she can arrange for the food.
YOUTH GROUP
This summer has some exciting things in store for the youth. Rather
than meeting weekly for regular youth group, a series of outings and
events have been planned like a swimming get together at the Detroit
Yacht club, a talk and presentation by a local DJ (he’s popular, but
it’s a surprise so watch for more in your mail and the bulletin
TEACHER’S APPRECIATION
We are blessed to have a super group of teachers who dedicate
themselves to the Lord’s work. Let’s honor them – invitations are on
their way to each person who teachers Church School at Metro. An
appreciation breakfast will be held in their honor on June 18th at 9:00
a.m. If you are a Bible Class, Sunday School or Disciple teacher please
contact the church office to reserve a place for yourself and a guest.
ONE ROOM SUMMER SUNDAY SCHOOL
Looking for a chance to bless our children with a short-term
commitment? How about trying Sunday School. We need summer teachers to
give our regular teachers a little break. The lessons are pre-planned
and you can schedule yourself to teach one week at a time. The lessons
are self-explanatory and everything that you need is provided. Contact
Rev. Green Timmons to help or sign up in the narthex.
Contact me at (313) 875-7407 ext. 315 if you feel called to assist in
this important ministry that serves the entire congregation by
encouraging spiritual growth.
Blessings, Rev. Faith E. Green Timmons
