Youth group is going great! That's the word from kids and their
parents. Please continue to pray for our teens and pre-teens as we teach
them the ways of Christ and biblical morals that will shape their lives.
This year we had a healthy and committed confirmation group of six kids.
Rarely did any of them miss a class. Rev. Verhelst and Rev. Green
co-taught the classes. Each Sunday Rev. Green and Rev. Verhelst rotated
between youth confirmation and the covenant and renewal classes in order
to ensure that a pastor was present for each class, each Sunday. Then
our two pastors embarked on a trip to Albion College for the "2005 Youth
Confirmation Rally." Seven youth, (one 2003 confirmand joined us too!)
traveled to join kids from across the state in praise, discussion with
the bishop, and other activities all aimed at widening their awareness
of the mission and the organizational structure of the United Methodist
Church. Bishop Keaton was great with the children! Wish we had pictures.
The youth also traveled recently together to see "Godspell," a '70
Broadway musical based on the gospel according to Matthew. You should
have seen their faces when they returned. The kids were in awe. Some of
them had most-likely never seen a stage play. The event was a blast and
enlightening at the same time. Special thanks to Vinnie McClure (chair
of the youth counsel), and Greg Timmons (a frequent Metro visitor) for
serving as chaperones. The kids made it back just in time to catch the
second half of George Benson in concert! What a day!
Various programs, events, and classes available for the youth.
